Adult Learn-To-Row Lessons
Discover Rowing at JRC
Jacksonville is a water-lover’s city with great weather year-round. What better way to enjoy the Great Outdoors and get in a great workout than to row our beautiful rivers! Jacksonville Rowing Club provides our community with the tools and opportunity to learn to row — a sport well-known for providing a full body, no-impact workout.
Open House Events
You are absolutely invited to attend one of our upcoming Open House events. Meet some of our members & coaches, get a tour the boathouse, and ask us questions about rowing in general and the programs we offer — including Learn-to-Row!
If you’re interested in Learn-to-Row, it’s a great opportunity to get a feel for what we do and introduce yourself to some friendly faces before beginning the class.

Learn-to-Row Program
JRC’s Learn-to-Row Program is designed for the beginner. We teach you the essentials of rowing in a small class environment. No prior rowing experience is necessary. By the end of this 18-hour course, you will have firsthand experience of what rowing is about, as well as the fundamental skills needed to join our regular weekend practices. Our LTR course is designed for novices, but many people interested in returning to rowing after a long absence might also find the program helpful as a refresher.
The month-long course provides instruction on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 9:15–11:30 a.m. Class is limited to 16 participants, so sign up to reserve your spot.
Classes run for four (4) consecutive weekends and comprise training on and off the water, including instruction on how to use Concept2 rowing machines (ergs). Our 8-session program is designed to give you a solid foundation in fundamental skills and plenty of actual time on the water in a real boat, introducing you to new skills at a manageable, steady pace. At many clubs across the country, adult Learn-to-Row classes are often just one or two sessions in length — not really enough time (in our opinion) to cover the basics in a way that’s comfortable and confidence-building, much less ensures adequate hands-on experience to help you decide whether or not rowing is a hobby you’d like to continue.
(FYI, we’re also one of THE most affordable Learn to Row programs in the country!)
